FDEP
Florida Department of Environmental Protection
Definition
FDEP is the Florida state agency that regulates environmental permitting for marine and coastal work, including dredging, seawall construction, and shoreline restoration.
What it means in practice
FDEP administers the Environmental Resource Permit (ERP) program, which is required for nearly all dredging work in Florida. The agency also coordinates with USACE for federal Section 10/404 reviews and administers the Coastal Construction Control Line (CCCL) program for oceanfront properties.
Why it matters to you
Any dredging project of meaningful scope will require an FDEP permit. Standard review timelines run 8 to 14 weeks; emergency rule filings can complete faster. Working with a team experienced in FDEP filings saves weeks of back-and-forth on Request for Additional Information (RAI) responses.
