CCCL

Coastal Construction Control Line

Definition

The CCCL is a state-designated line along Florida's Atlantic and Gulf coasts beyond which any construction, including dredging, requires special FDEP approval.

What it means in practice

The CCCL is set on a county-by-county basis and represents the seaward extent of expected hurricane surge impacts. Construction landward of the line follows standard rules; construction seaward of it (or affecting structures seaward of it) requires either a CCCL General Permit or, for more significant work, a CCCL Individual Permit. Individual permits involve longer review and more stringent requirements.

Why it matters to you

Any oceanfront dredging, seawall, or shoreline restoration project will involve CCCL coordination. The permit type depends on scope: minor maintenance can use a general permit; significant rebuilds need an Individual Permit. Working with a contractor experienced in CCCL coordination keeps the project on schedule.
